Shuttle service

This review only covers the shuttle service. The driver was great and very courteous. But the van was unsuitable for transporting as it had NO handles, rails or grips to assist in pulling up into the seats. The first step was close to a foot off the ground and getting in and out was very difficult. I don't plan to use them again unless it is totally unavoidable (thunderstorm).

Kicked out

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
kicked out of Brookwood CCU while waiting for covid results - Wife bad sick went to Brookwood via Talladega Hospital Emergency room - while there they give my wife her third covid test and then kicked me out the next day while awaiting results. she had covid test on the 16th at Cares plus in anniston - had to self isolate with her for 5 days to get results on 21st that was negative she got worse son on the 23 ( monday morning ) took her to Talladega emergency room where they did covid test ( also negative ) they sent her to Brookwood where they - put her in CCU and checked her - ( she has monthly infusion and after that on the 14th she had awful headach and was getting fever ) the expectation thought either Pneumonia, UTI or Blood infection - testing found blood infection they said the next morning - probablly from the monthly infusion which was late due to us being on vacation - maybe the incompetent people set the fluids in the corner until they were needed and thats what caused this - dont know. but even knowing this was the problem and despite 2 other negative corona tests they made me leave so she has no one there with her - This is Incompetence - stupidity - and lack of compassion on the part of This Hospitals Stupid People in Charge of Policy and then results are usually back in 12 to 24 hours they said so you should be able to come back in the evening - well 44 hours later I am still awaiting the results of testing so I can visit my Very Sick Wife. I understand taking precautions but use some reason - we expect the people in charge to use reason in making decisions and this is just an example of their incompetence ( if no reasoning is used we do not need them just use a computer it can give black and white answers without error ) Sure Hope the Doctors arent Incompetent. Nurses and staff gave me 3 different visiting times 6:30 to 6 - 9 to 9 - 9 to 6 I questioned one and he changed time while i was tlking to him from 9 to 6 to 9 to 9. They required a code to get info on the patient and the first 2 times i was there they didnt give me a code so i had to give them my wifes birthday to get a code to see how she was doing over the phone. Sure hope they are better at taking care of illnesses that they are at communication.

Malpractice

I went in the hospital to have a mass removed which was a 4-5 day hospital stay. Needless to say, Dr. Ronson who performed the surgery put *** in my esophagus. I had to have a 2nd surgery to try to repair my esophagus. I recall when I was taken back for the 2nd surgery, a nurse from Princeton hospital that was assisting the doctor from Princeton for the surgery made a comment that the equipment was not clean and she should have brought their own equipment for the surgery, I asked the nurse that brought me into the surgery room if we need to reschedule the surgery. She then looked at the Anesthesiologists and he asked if she was ready to sedate me. Something went wrong during the surgery because I had to placed on a breathing machine. I was at Brookwood for about 30 days. I could not eat or drink any fluids because their was still *** in my esophagus. The doctor finally admitted that he did not know what else to do. I was put on a feeding tube, which caused me to have to take insulin shots. Most of the nurses were rude. One of the nurses stuck the thermometer in my mouth so hard and got upset when I advised her that the Tylenol suppository was not working to bring my fever down. The nurse then placed ice bags under my arms, in between my legs and at my feet. She was very rude. My call button was placed in the chair. I was not able to take myself to the bathroom. I use the bathroom on myself at least 4 times that night. I had to use the bed table to hit against the wall in order to get someone to come in. There was a male nurse that was really nice to me and my guest that came to visit me in the hospital. He made sure that I was clean. The doctor arranged for me to go to UAB for further treatment. They did not want me to be transported by Ambulance so they discharged me from the hospital and my husband took me to UAB. Once they got me to my room at UAB, the ran test and discovered that I was severely dehydrated. I was released form the hospital after 5 days at UAB. I now live with a restriction in my esophagus. This was a horrible experience for me. Due to the surgery at Brookwood , I have anxiety when I go to the doctor.. I do not recommend any one to go to this hospital.

Geriatric Psychiatric NIGHTMARE, My mom got hi it and slapped!

My mom was sent to this ward after complications with dementia. It was a complete DISASTER! All tbe way through for 8 weeks! The hospital operators and the people answering the phone in EVERY single department i talked with in those 8 weeks were rude, short spoken and just down right NOT NICE! It was a hard enough having to leave my mother there, they made it worse with the run around and HORRIBLE phone presence. Someone needs to get ahold of these people! They are paid ALOT of money to sit in a chair and do a job! My next call will be the STATE OF ALABAMA! To the case worker (Bo), social worker (Cassandra), hospital operators, doctors (Pych) and their bosses EVERY ONE OF YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! BE NICE TO PEOPLE! They are not there because they want to be! Oh, and you are paid to do that job! It is a SAD SAD day when something that was supposed to be good for someone can turn out soooooo BAD!

Horrible wait times to be admitted

My mother was taken back for chest pains at 3pm. At 10pm after being told she was being admitted she is still in the ER waiting. On top of that her double fusion neck was hurting and asked for something silly like a pillow, 3 hours later and still no pillow. ***

Waiting, in anaflactic shock

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I came in with head to to hives, red splotches, and swollen mouth tongue and throat. I was still able to breathe and talk with some difficulty. The attendant in the waiting room was very cold and made no effort to hurry due to my time sensitive condition. Overall, it took a full hour before I was given any medication to stop the reaction. I was very very displeased with the service. While the rest of the staff was nice and accommodating, I fully expected them to be in some sort of rush considering that I was in danger of having my airway obstructed.

Brookwood Hospital Nurses//Watch What you say

I have a close relative at Brook Wood Medical Center on the 4th floor. Because we can't always be there we were given a number to the nurse's station to call and check on our patient. While waiting for her nurse to come to the phone we (I put it on speaker phone) overheard a group of nurses talking about her in a degrading and derogatory manner. If you can't control your nurses or require that they conduct themselves in a professional manner at least show them where the hold button is. I hope I never have to go into a hospital and I pray it is not at Brook Wood.

Business office collection service.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Nothing but good things to say about Brookwood Medical. Delivered both of my children there and mended a broken arm. Long wait in the ER which is what to be expected in an ER. My issue is with the business office where payments are made. This is handled by an office in California where the typical wait is more than 10 mins. After 10 mins the answering machine comes on and says please call tomorrow when we are not as busy. Call tomorrow and the same thing. For those that work for a living this is hard to do. When finally reached an operator I am told that payment is outstanding and how do I wish to pay the bill. I inform the cust serv person that I have an issue with the bill. She politely informs me that I should take it up with the hospital and says that she will have to turn the bill over to collections if payment is not made today. The problem was that the bill was paid by CC and was mailed in time. The only issue was the Post Office was late in delivering the mail across the country. Quit trying to save a dollar and bring the business office back to Alabama.

Told to " go home sleep it off, nothing is wrong with you!"

I I was taken by ambulance to Brookwood er. Waited a long time , never even entered a room. I had the worse migraine ever, thought my head would explode and I would die or be a vegetable . The nurse looked at my arm with 5 bruises from paramedic trying to give me an IV. And states "what do we have here? " she slung my arm down. A test was run, then the doctor grinned at me and told me"n0thing is wrong with you! Go home and sleep it off! I looked at his grin and said this is the absolute worst migraine ever, the meds barely are taking edge off , use to knock me out! Something is bad wrong! First he says "well you are not getting anymore!" I screamed " I DID NOT ASK FOR MORE! I AM TRYING TO EXPLAIN! Laughing says, your test was fine! there is nothing wrong GO HOME and SLEEP it off! Furious, I decided to go to Mayo Clinic, they requested Brookwood records, performed their test and DR.CUTRER stated that Brookwood reported a sinus infection and prescribed an antibiotic! THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT HAPPENED! Dr. Cutrer went on to explain that wherw they report a sinus infection, it is actually an aneurism in the internal carotid artery next to the optic nerve! Brookwood DR.JOESPH HUDSON was the laughing man, Where can we go to correct this negligence?

This is by far the WORST hospital!!!

I went in to be treated for extremely bad cramps & a cyst. First of all I had to wait 5 hours to be seen. When I finally got a room. I laid there for hours until someone actually came to assist me. After several nurses walked in and out of my room. No one asked if I was ok checked my temp or anything for the full five hours I sat at the hospital waiting in excoriating pain. My aunt is a witness to this all. The whole time I was at the hospital. The also treated her horribly and she wasn't even in pain. She had to call in several times before someone actually came in the room to see me. When the doctor or nurse whatever and whoever he was finally came in. He asked me what was the problem for maybe the sixth time. He felt uncomfortable and he made me feel uncomfortable about a lot of thing. Without even doing blood work or running any kind of tests on me. I felt worse when I left. In shorter words no one even touched me!
